Parent Communication and Involvement Mountain View Academy believes in providing for the student and parent bodies of the school. Parents are provided with the opportunity to be directly involved with the performance of the school and are recognized as the primary educators of their children. Open communication between the school and home is therefore vital in the success of each individual child. We encourage direct, as well as, e-mail communication.
Uniform Social and economic equality are thoroughly promoted at MVA, beginning with school uniforms. Full uniforms must be worn on all field trips as well as when special speakers or presenters visit MVA. To set up an appointment or purchase uniforms please contact Ed Kachour by calling 403 250 8747 or emailing him at ed@elegantinc.ca.
Gym strip is now available for order from the uniform page, via Metromedia. In addition to the uniform, students need a change of shoes for outdoor activities, and a non-scuff gym sneaker for the gymnasium.
Telephone We ask that only messages of an urgent nature be called in during school time. All staff members are available to speak with you before 8:40 AM or after 3:30 PM. Our phone number is (403) 217-4346. Students’ access to the phone will also be limited to calls of an urgent nature. This excludes forgotten homework or plans for after school. Cell phones are strictly prohibited within the classrooms and may only be used before school, during lunch and after school.
School Hours The school’s hours are from 8:30 AM until 3:15 PM; all students must be picked up by 3:40 PM unless they are involved in after hours, school sanctioned activities. If you need to meet with your child’s teacher beyond the regular school hours, please arrange a mutually convenient time in advance.
Key Success Factors Factors that enable Mountain View Academy to provide exceptional academic standards include the uniqueness of the school’s specialized focus, the commitment to student’s academic and personal success, and the exceeding of educational requirements. Mountain View Academy is also committed to maintaining low student-to-teacher ratios (maximum of 16:1), thus providing care and attention for both students and teachers.
Not only do students master fundamental elements within core subjects, they learn through self-directed research and problem solving. The school also provides extensive extra-curricular activities that augment classroom-based learning. The philosophy of the school prepares students for entry into a rapidly changing society, which requires well rounded individuals with excellent communications skills and a diverse knowledge base. |
